USA: Initial jobless claims hardly changed at a low level

WASHINGTON (dpa-AFX) – In the United States, the number of initial jobless claims has hardly changed in the past week. The number fell by 2000 to 231,000, the Department of Labor said on Thursday in Washington. Analysts had expected an average of 230,000 applications.

The level of auxiliary requests thus remains low, indicating a robust US job market suggests. The weekly initial claims are considered a short-term indicator for the development of the US labor market.

The US Federal Reserve also takes the situation on the job market into account monetary policy. In view of the robust development and the very high inflation, the US Federal Reserve has increased its key interest rate more than expected and has signaled further significant interest rate hikes for the coming months./jkr/bgf/jha/
