Safe from work to home. Not only on the highway, but also on the less safe Rijks-N roads. It is one of the government’s priorities. From 2023, the cabinet will allocate €200 million to further improve road safety on sixteen different Rijks-N-roads. Priority is given to roads with a high risk of road casualties.

The money is intended for safer roadsides, separation of driving directions and known bottlenecks that lead to unsafe situations. Where possible, smaller projects are quickly adapted, while at the same time starting a large-scale structural approach.

Minister Harbers: It’s good that we can now get started quickly with tackling the most dangerous N-roads. But we are not there with this. We will continue to look at how we can take measures in the future to reduce the number of road casualties.

What will be tackled first

On Rijks-N-roads where maintenance measures are already planned in the coming years, these safety measures are immediately included. This involves removing or shielding obstacles in the verge or tackling level crossings. The implementation of this package is scheduled to start in the years 2023 and 2024. The total amount is € 24.2 million.

Large-scale integrated approach

In the longer term, this involves a large-scale and integrated approach to a limited number of routes where road safety can be significantly improved. Consider, for example, the application of physical separation of driving directions. The start of the implementation of this second phase is planned in 2025 and 2026. The total size is approximately €170.5 million.

Temporary measures N50 Kampen-Kampen South

In addition to the roads that will be tackled with the 200 million, temporary measures will also be taken in the short term to improve road safety on the N50 between Kampen-Kampen South*. It concerns a temporary speed reduction and the installation of a temporary lane separation in the form of a concrete barrier. In the long term, this route will be tackled definitively by means of a widening of the road and various road safety measures.

Impulse on top of the existing €25 million from the MIRT

These measures are in addition to roadside measures that will be worked on in the coming years on the basis of the €25 million that the previous cabinet made available for this and the investments made in Rijks-N from the Multi-Year Program for Infrastructure, Spatial Planning and Transport (MIRT). -weigh.
