“There are therefore no capacity resources foreseen for Ostend and we have just received an assessment that proves that our infrastructure is inadequate for the number of students,” says Chris Vandecasteele of the School Group Stroom directorate.

“We are going to downsize our school on 1 September, which will greatly increase the waiting list in Ostend. We now have a capacity of 240 students. We are going to downsize it to 160 to 170. That means a student stop in the BLO and the BLO from next year. demand is increasing.”

At “De Vloedlijn” in Ostend they have to wait another six years for a new building and until then they have to make do with what they have in special education in Ostend. Regular primary schools will no longer be able to refer to special education, despite the great need for extra places.
