Aike Westhoff was quick to tell his exciting story today, because he had detonated a grenade near his home in Espel on Sunday. “My classmates thought that was cool!”

Close to the house of the Westhoff family on the Pilotenweg between Espel and Emmeloord, magnet fishermen had fished a high-explosive grenade from the Espeelvaart on Sunday afternoon. The hobbyists didn’t quite trust their catch and called the police. It turned out to be an unstable and therefore dangerous German high-explosive grenade from the Second World War.
