For the first time since 1918, Russia is unable to repay some of its foreign debts. This is a result of increasingly strict Western economic sanctions against the country. By the end of the day Sunday, the grace period expired in the amount of about $100 million (95 million euros) in interest payments that Russia owed to foreign investors since May 27.
