Wilfred Genee would never be able to work for the Studio Sport institute again when his Today Inside program comes to an end. “Unfortunately, that time has just passed,” says Kees Jansma.
In the distant past it was Wilfred Genee’s big dream to work for Studio Sport. He also made several attempts, but they were unsuccessful. When Kees Jansma was still the boss of the sports department at the NOS, he showed Wilfred the door hard.
Short and sweet
Wilfred was insufferable, Kees tells in the podcast The Lion Lult On† “Wilfred came to Studio Sport and he was of course a lot younger than now, but then he already had that presumptuousness, which I find quite attractive about him now. But then I thought…”
Kees thought he was terribly pedantic. “He didn’t like Mart Smeets, he didn’t really think anyone was good and suitable and he said: ‘Here I am.’ I said, “Very nice, see you soon and we’ll see each other again.” It was a short and sweet conversation.”
Not to Studio Sport
There is a constant threat of Wilfred’s current Today Inside program being blown up. The biggest risk factor is Johan Derksen (73), who has long since reached retirement age.
Can Wilfred still work at Studio Sport after his VI years? No, Kees thinks. “Not anymore either. Unfortunately, that time has just passed. He’s been making this kind of program for too long.”
False and provocative
Wilfred does not fit in with the NOS, according to Kees. “I think he is an excellent presenter: false, provocative and he tempts you into things you may not want to say. In short: that’s excellent for such a program, but I don’t think it’s possible for Studio Sport on Sunday evening at seven o’clock. There is a difference between Today Inside and Studio Sport.”
What does he think of Wilfred himself? “He’s just a good presenter, but I don’t always like him.”
Fragment
Kees is invariably ridiculed in VI:
