For the German 3×3 basketball players, the round of 16 was the last stop on their World Cup comebacks after eight years in Antwerp.
The women’s team, which traveled to Belgium as number one in the world rankings as one of the favorites, was beaten by outsiders Canada with 13:22. The men’s team lost to medal candidate Latvia 12:21.
As in the preliminary round, the women of the German Basketball Association (DBB) also had problems against Canada. Less than a month after winning the opening tournament of the Women’s Series in Tel Aviv, six points from Sonja Greinacher (Team Bundeswehr) as the best thrower in the round of 16 against the maple leaves was not enough for success. In the men’s team, Niklas Geske from Düsseldorf was the most successful thrower with seven points.
