This is how Iltalehti reported on Antti Kasvio’s bronze 30 years ago.
IL ARCHIVE
“The medal is about both mastering timing and a strong will to fight. A vaginal mouth that allows deeds to speak for themselves. ”
This is how Iltalehti estimates Antti Kasvion performance in the newspaper of the day after the Olympic Games in Barcelona, August 10, 1992. Three lions were entered, of course.
The bronze of the plant on the opening weekend of the Games blew up the Olympic intoxication. It had been 72 years since the previous Finnish Olympic Olympic medal.
In the first round, Kasvio was the fifth fastest with 1.48.31. In the final of the evening, he hit 1.47.63.
– The excitement was stronger in the morning than before the final. Somehow surviving the final race probably triggered it, Kasvio commented.
– I had no clear expectations. In my own mind, of course, one could still dream of a medal.
The bronze of the plant was, of course, the main topic on the front page of Iltalehti on Monday, July 27th.
– I didn’t have an accurate picture of the situation. I repeated that a couple of guys were at least ahead, he repeated.
– Gold will be picked up at the next Olympics.
A boat from Grandpa
The next day, Iltalehti told a story about a boat that Kasvio got from his grandfather. From the fight.
Taisto Kasvio had made his boat promise a few years before Barcelona.
– I told Ant that you would get this boat if you bring a medal of any color. I was aiming for Atlanta (1996), but better that I came now.
Taisto Kasvio presented Bayliner Capria to Iltalehti in Otsolahti, Espoo.
– When I bought this, the young people were wondering what that old man was doing with a boat like that, he said.
– Yes, Antti will probably lend me this boat – or at least I can take care of the maintenance.
Plant-like return home
Iltalehti was present when Kasvio returned to Finland. However, the bronze medal remained visibly hidden.
The media was served with plant property, or concise expression.
How does it feel to return home with a medal?
– Not at all.
Did the trip go well?
– Yeah yeah.
Are there any known medal coffees in the evening?
The answer to the last question was a fading back.
