Leonie Ebert got her second medal at the Fencing European Championships in Antalya.
Three days after winning the individual gold medal, the 22-year-old secured bronze in the team competition with the German foil team. After a clear 23:45 defeat in the semifinals against Italy, the selection of the German Fechter-Bund (DFeB) prevailed in the match for bronze with 45:31 against Poland.
In addition to Ebert Leandra Behr, Kim Kirschen and Anne Sauer started for Germany. The Italians easily won the gold medal in the final against France (45:25). Meanwhile, Germany’s saber men had to admit defeat to Ukraine in a dramatic way in the quarter-finals (44:45).
On Friday, Ebert gave the German team a perfect start to the title fights in Turkey with her individual title. At the Olympics in Tokyo, Germany remained without a medal in upheaval, and the World Championships in Cairo begin on July 15.
