In the Zaanstad Judicial Complex, measures were taken in the ward after a nurse was assaulted. The woman had to watch a detainee jerk himself off. Then he flew at her. A mirror has been placed in the consulting room where it happened, among other things.
A spokesperson for the prison informs NH Nieuws about this when asked. The prisoner in question Huruy G. was found guilty by the Alkmaar court last week of harassing a nurse in February last year.
That day the man came to her office for an intake in his department. There he pulled the pants off his sweatpants and started masturbating. When the woman asked if he wanted to stop, he didn’t.
She panicked and tried to run away, but then the man grabbed her with both hands. Later, the man grabbed another colleague by her breasts. At that time there was no mirror on the wall of the room in the ward. It has now been posted. “As a result, staff can see what is happening behind them or if someone is walking in,” said a spokesperson.
Desk the other way around
The nurse’s desk has also been reversed, so that the employee does not have to walk past the patient, but can go outside immediately in case of an emergency. In addition, various protocols already applied for intake interviews.
“Staff are always alert if someone is sitting in a speaking room with a detained patient. If you sit alone with a patient, you must always report this to the other staff as well.”
In addition, all staff in the department wear a pager. “People have been trained to de-escalate and intervene if necessary in high-risk situations. This policy was already in place and still is.”
The convicted of rape and fatal assault Huruy G. is in a special ward within the Zaanstad prison: the Penitentiary Psychiatric Center (PPC). The man suffers from psychosis, is addicted and so he is not suitable for an ordinary penitentiary program.
NH Nieuws spoke with the department director of the PPC. This interview will be released this afternoon.
