Jabeur before playing with Williams: “Incredible”

Ons Jabeur was only able to enjoy her tennis triumph in Berlin for a short time. On the way to the grass classic in Wimbledon, the Tunisian has a very special appearance this week in Eastbourne, England.

“Now I have to focus on what I have to do in doubles,” said Jabeur with a wink. After a year’s break, tennis superstar Serena Williams is making her much-awaited comeback alongside the 27-year-old before the American then aims for her 24th Grand Slam singles title in Wimbledon (June 27 to July 10).

“I can’t wait,” said Jabeur on Sunday evening. “I’m very happy she chose me, it’s amazing. I still can’t believe it.” With the final success in Berlin after the retirement of Olympic champion Belinda Bencic from Switzerland, Jabeur moved up to third place in the world rankings in singles, but in doubles she celebrated her last win to date a year ago.

The contact for the joint assignment in Eastbourne came about through the trainers, both had spoken to each other before, Jabeur had trained occasionally with Serena’s sister Venus in the past. In Eastbourne, Jabeur also competes in singles. “But the focus is on doubles now,” she joked.
