Max Verstappen only had to beat Carlos Sainz in the Ferrari on Sunday in Montreal, but the Spaniard did not make it easy for the World Cup leader. After a nice battle until the end, the Dutchman won the Canadian Grand Prix.
Due to a late safety car, Verstappen and Sainz came close, after which the Limburger had to hold out on slightly older tires until the end. The reigning world champion succeeded.
Because Charles Leclerc, who started from behind, did not get further than fifth place, Verstappen increased his World Cup lead over the Monegask to 49 points. Sergio Perez, the number two in the standings, dropped out. The Mexican is now 46 points behind.
Lewis Hamilton finished third in the Mercedes, ahead of his teammate George Russell.
