Halle’s tournament boss Weber calls for more strong German men

Halle’s tournament director Ralf Weber has criticized the current state of German men’s tennis and complained about the lack of width behind Alexander Zverev, who is currently injured.

“We’ve had nine Germans in the main draw for years, many of whom qualified directly. Oscar Otte was the only German to survive the opening round – that’s actually not enough in the national balance sheet,” said Weber in his conclusion of the grass event that was coming to an end in Halle, Westphalia. The event definitely needs more local top players as identification figures, said Weber.
