Director Perry says Smith didn’t even believe he was doing it at the Oscars.
AOP
Director and actor Tyler Perry finally tells what he talked to actor Will Smith at the Oscars right after the shock. According to Perry, he sought to calm the situation so that it would not escalate.
Will Smith’s biggest talk at the March Oscar gala was a comedy from the comedian Chris Rockin sight. Rock joked at Jada Pinkett Smith’s bald head, causing a shocking reaction from the audience.
Will was seen at first laughing at the comedian’s jokes, but Jada’s reaction made the spouse get on stage and hit Rock in the face. Despite the beat, Smith won the Best Actor Oscar for King Richard: The Story of the Williams, and shed tears on stage.
The actor explained his behavior by acting on emotion and the joke was too much. He publicly apologized to Rock for getting a gate ban at the Oscars for the next ten years.
Director’s comment
According to People magazine, director Perry, 52, was filmed at the gala talking to Smith right after the hit. Perry commented to the newspaper that he had sought immediate resolution of the situation so that it would not escalate further.
– There is a difference between reassurance and proactive intervention. I left in time to make sure Chris was okay. Friendship with both has been very challenging, Perry commented to the public.
According to the director, Chris Rock handled the situation well despite the shock that shocked him and the entire Oscar audience. He stresses that what happened was also painful for Will, who was shocked after the situation. He couldn’t believe what exactly had happened or that he really acted as he did.
– When we walked over to him, he was upset. He didn’t think he really did. I looked him in the eye and asked what exactly he was doing on his own night.

Trauma in the background
The Oscar gala was a long-awaited moment for Smith in his career, as he received recognition for his role. However, he remembered the uproar he had caused. According to Perry, Smith tried to comprehend during the evening what he had done.
– I just read his book, and it tells how he couldn’t protect his mother as a child. As a man, I know that feeling when you think of that little boy. If the trauma is not treated immediately, it will pop up as an inappropriate and terrible time as an adult. I know Will, I know him very well.
Perry justifies Smith’s use of childhood trauma, though he doesn’t give the act justice in revealing a possible reason to defend his wife.
He thought the Will Smith seen at the Oscars was not that familiar and well-known, but he acted like someone else. The shocking case has been commented on by many parties since March, and efforts have been made to explain Smith’s use. Perry suggests in his comments that Smith’s trauma erupted from the stimulus.
Chris Rock has not yet commented on the whole case in public, although he has joked about it at his gigs. He has stated that he is speaking outrage at some point in the case.
