Foundation stone for new town hall of Roeselare
A very special laying of the foundation stone, with stones from the original medieval belfry on the Grote Markt. “In this way we establish the link between the rich history of our city and our town hall and at the same time usher in a new era together with the neighbourhood. We are ready to build a new beacon for the citizens of Roeselare in the next two years,” says Nathalie Muylle, alderman for urban development.
The sustainable new building will connect seamlessly with the 18th-century town hall building on the Grote Markt, the belfry (UNESCO World Heritage) and the surrounding heritage buildings.
Now that the demolition works, carried out by Stadsbader, are largely over, a new partner is ready to continue working on the new city hall. The City of Roeselare awarded the contract for the construction and renovation works to General Construction Maes. A company that has previously realized projects such as the new swimming pool in Roeselare, the Utopia library in Aalst, the Nieuwe Dokken in Ghent and the K-Tower in Kortrijk.
In the autumn of 2022 you will see the building rise when the superstructure also starts. The carcass should be finished by mid-2023 and the residents of Roeselare will also get a unique look behind the scenes on Open Yards Day. The connection to the heat network will also follow in 2023. After that, the contractor completely finishes the interior and starts the surrounding construction.
