53% of workers think their daily life will change by 2032

According to a recent study conducted by Software Advice with 1,000 employees, 53% of workers believe that work automation (largely linked to artificial intelligence) will have an impact on their daily life over the next 10 years.

What is the perception of work automation?

First observation revealed by the study: 64% of employees surveyed believe that the pandemic has accelerated the use of digital in their company. Especially with the deployment of chatbots, new software or virtual meetings. They are 53% to think that the automation of tasks will have an impact on their daily life by 2032. The Software Advice survey shows that their feeling vis-à-vis new technologies in business reveals ” optimistic “ for 38% of them and ” enthusiastic “ for 13%. Respondents are asking for more training on this subject: 77% think that their employer should train them more digital skills and, by extension, mastery of task automation tools. Automation of tasks is therefore not a subject that frightens employees. When we ask them if their daily life is going “massively” change because of automation, they are 38% to estimate that it is “fairly likely” and 15% say it’s ” very probable “.

Workers have a real need for training

48% of workers surveyed think that in the future “there will be more job prospects due to automation”. On the other hand, uncertainty is still present for 20% of respondents who don’t know if automation will have a positive or negative impact on employment. According to Caroline Rousseau, analyst at Software Advice, “Employees are in real demand for training. Companies will have to set up dedicated time slots because investing working time in training is the promise of a successful rebound or reorganization, and more fulfilled employees”.

Indeed, teleworking has already blurred the boundaries between personal and professional life. It is not conceivable to ask workers to invest personal time in training. This study clearly shows that companies wishing to adapt to the changes of our time have every interest in anticipating the future and training their teams well the massive arrival of work automation. To collect this data, Software Advice interviewed 1,000 French workers between November 18 and 22, 2021.
