Slowly but surely more and more is becoming clear about the new attraction that will be in the Efteling. Danse Macabre, as the successor to the haunted castle is called, would become a lot more dynamic. In this way, the audience will soon become a real part of the performance. Fortunately, there is good news for the big fans of the haunted castle: the iconic floating violin returns. In addition, you will not see much difference in style between the attractions. The arches, ornate windows, balustrades and gates will have the same Gothic style.
Ghost lock design is back
The new attraction also features a character once designed by the designer of the haunted castle. Ton van der Ven drew the mind of a conductor at the time. This conductor would control ghost elements in the set. But that was too expensive at the time and was scrapped. Jeroen Verheij is chief designer of the new attraction and decided to add this conductor now.
Efteling has previously announced that the attraction can delight 1250 people per hour. The attraction, which will cost 25 million euros, will be opened in 2024.
Protest against demolition
When Efteling announced on 24 January that it would demolish the Spookslot, there was a lot of protest. Fans did not want their attraction to disappear and started a petition. This one was signed more nearly ten thousand times. Heritage Association Bond Heemschut also put a stop to it. Ultimately both unsuccessful, because the haunted castle is going to disappear anyway.
