A patisserie in Notting Hill

★★★★ We don’t always want movies that turn us on; many times we want movies that provide us with some peace, especially when reality is overexcited – like the one that surrounds us every damn day. This is the case of this film about a group of people who carry the dream of another on their shoulders, in this case transforming a destroyed local into a pastry shop. Three of those people are women, which also implies an exploration of female friendship. That’s wrong? Not at all: what makes the set of good intentions, tensions, problems and small triumphs come through is the tone: all the characters seem human beings and are treated with humor and intelligence. Better said: they do not lack humor or intelligence, something that scripts tend to forget and some directors, ignore. Promising debut feature.
