The reigning world champion of formulas Max Verstappen isn’t excited about the driver’s pay cap designed for the F1 series.

– I think it’s very wrong, because at the moment F1 is only growing in popularity, and everyone’s wealth is growing – including the teams and the F1 series itself. Everyone benefits.

The formulas have been rumored to have a common $ 30 million salary cap for the two drivers in each stable, but so far no formal decision has been made.

– Why should the income of drivers be limited even if they do a show and risk their lives ?, Verstappen questioned.

Verstappen also expressed concern that F1 team financiers and Managers could reduce their investment in young drivers if expected future earnings were to fall due to the pay cap.

– In all junior classes, drivers have sponsors and supporters who receive their share of the driver’s income. I think the cost cap limited a lot of sponsorship because the investment wouldn’t pay off properly.

– This would also be reflected in the junior classes. I don’t think we would want to go here, the Red Bull driver said.

McLaren driver Lando Norris shouted Verstappen’s opinions.

– Driver supporters want their money back somewhere. The cost cap would not inspire sponsorship of drivers, Norris estimates.

The future of the F1 series is overshadowed by inflation, which is pushing up costs, especially as a result of the significant rise in energy prices. For this reason, cost containment has already begun in the formulas.

For this period, a cost ceiling of approximately EUR 132 million came into force for the development of cars during the period. Driver salaries have not yet been capped.
