living

The plan is to build an additional 3,000 homes over the next four years. There will be more flexible housing for starters, status holders and urgent seekers. Extra attention is paid to the elderly, people with care needs, starters and families who want to grow further. Less social housing will be built in the weaker neighbourhoods.

The municipality will also examine what is needed in each neighborhood in terms of improvements in the area of liveability and safety.

Safety

Being able to live, work, travel and do business safely: according to the municipality, this has top priority. The approach is aimed at youth groups, violent incidents, safety in and around schools and undermining crime in neighbourhoods, industrial estates and catering establishments. There will be more enforcers and extra attention is being paid to vulnerable young people in order to prevent crime.

Waste

The municipality wants to develop a new waste policy in consultation with residents. In our city we have an excessive amount of residual waste, the processing costs of which are high. We feel this in our wallets through the annual waste levy. So something has to change in the field of waste.

Contrary to the previous waste policy plan, and after the outcome of the referendum, the municipality now wants to receive advice from its own citizens. Research will also be conducted into post-separation of our waste.

green city

Zoetermeer is known as a green city. The council wants to keep it that way. The coalition agreement states that more maintenance will take place, mainly in places where it is badly needed. Extra trash cans will be placed in recreational areas and on walking routes. And there will be more space for small-scale events, places to stay and catering in parks, provided that nature does not suffer from this.

Accessibility for everyone

The municipality wants to focus on accessibility for all residents of Zoetermeer. People with disabilities must be able to easily enter all public buildings and (new) homes. In the Stadstheater there will be wheelchair spaces in both halls, an adapted foyer and a disabled toilet.

Sports and leisure

Bad news for Museum de Voorde: the municipality will stop granting subsidies. The Videogame Museum, on the other hand, may remain and a new location is even being sought. Cultuurpodium Farmhouse and coffee shop Casa may continue in a future new-build location, next to the current location. Larger playgrounds will be created in the neighborhoods in consultation with the neighbourhood.
