KSC applies for cancellation of game after Corona outbreak

Karlsruhe/Sandhausen (dpa) – As announced, Karlsruher SC has applied for the cancellation of its home game against SV Sandhausen after a corona outbreak with 16 players who tested positive.

The application for the second division game on Sunday is with the German Football League in Frankfurt am Main, said KSC sports director Oliver Kreuzer on Friday of the German Press Agency.

“We can’t get more than 11 players,” he explained. “I’m already assuming that the game will be canceled.” Kreuzer assumes that the DFL will exchange information with the Karlsruhe health department and then make a decision later in the day.

In addition to the 16 corona cases, there are five professionals in the team who have been injured for a long time, explained Kreuzer. They could not play even if the tests were negative for them. “So we have to subtract five from the remaining 16 players.” This results in only eleven remaining actors. In addition to the footballers, there are also four coaches and people from the functional team who are infected with Corona.

Meanwhile, opponent SV Sandhausen would like to compete. But that wasn’t because on Sunday (1.30 p.m. / Sky) in Karlsruhe you could capitalize on KSC’s personnel problems, explained coach Alois Schwartz two days before the North Baden derby. “We want to play because we want to show a reaction to the very weak performance in the 0: 3 against Jahn Regensburg.”

The relegation-threatened Table-16. was already affected by a corona outbreak this season. In November, twelve players and six people from the supervisory staff tested positive. As a result, the game against FC St. Pauli was postponed.
