Sandra’s story about long covid touches a nerve: hundreds of reactions

Sandra van den Heuvel from Oss (46) no longer recognizes herself after she contracted long covid more than a year ago. On Sunday, Sandra told the Omroep Brabant talk show KRAAK how the disease destroyed her life for months and that she is still not over it. Since then it has been raining reactions to the broadcast. Hundreds of people indicate that they recognize themselves or family members in Sandra’s emotional story.

“I have been hoping for fourteen months that things will get better next week,” the once sporty woman told KRAAK on Sunday. Long covid hit Sandra hard. “At a certain moment I could only cry from fatigue.” Her story touched many viewers, who also reported massively to the editors.

Presenter Arjo Kraak says that almost 250 emails have now been received from people who have long covid themselves. “Or who someone in their family has it with. They write that they watched the conversation with Sandra with tears in their eyes. Some people are quite desperate.”

C-support
In the Netherlands, tens of thousands of people are being treated by a physiotherapist for lung covid. A special allowance has been created for this, which will run until next month. About a thousand people with the disease report every month to the C-support foundation, which advises and supports lung covid patients.

Yet little is known about the disease. Researchers from Amsterdam UMC and UMC Utrecht recently found inflammation throughout the brain. According to the researchers, this has not been demonstrated before in living people with lung covid. Research is now being conducted to determine whether there is a connection between lung covid and global brain inflammation.

Special broadcast
On Sunday, KRAAK will be all about long covid with a themed broadcast. There will also be room for the reactions received by the editors, of course in addition to conversations with experts by experience and experts. The broadcast will be on TV and online on Sunday at noon, then it will be repeated on TV and can also be viewed online.
