Several thirty-year-old silver lime trees in Veghel have been destroyed by vandals to such an extent that they will probably not survive this damage. The municipality of Meierijstad has reported the vandalism. It concerns trees that, according to the municipality, have a value of more than 19,000 euros.
The bark of the trees in the vicinity of Tijmveld-Lavasveld has been removed from the entire circumference of the trunks. This disrupts the sap flow and according to the municipality, the trees will die within one to two years.
Replacing the trees costs a lot of money. “Money that we cannot spend on other useful things for our residents,” said the municipality. It also takes ten years before new trees have the size of the now destroyed trees, she also writes.
