FC Bayern threatens playoff knockout after the next bankruptcy

In the playoffs of the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL), Telekom Baskets Bonn kept their chance of reaching the final and can continue to dream of the first championship title in the club’s history.

In game four, the runners-up in the main round won 83-80 (48-47) at FC Bayern Munich and made the best-of-five 2-2 in the series.

The decisive fifth game will take place on Wednesday (8:30 p.m./MagentaSport and Sport1) in Bonn.

“These are an incredible squad with a lot of character. It’s a lot of fun to train them,” said Bonn coach Tuomas Iisalo afterwards on “MagentaSport”: “We now have the momentum, Bayern has the pressure. We always find one Path.”

After the 86:84 win in game three, coach Tuomas Iisalo’s team, like Bayern before them, also won their second away game in a row. In a high-class game, both teams got off to a great start – at the break it was 48:47 for the guests after numerous spectacular actions.

FC Bayern’s race to catch up comes too late

In the second half it was initially balanced, before Bonn’s mid-fourth quarter led them to eight points for the first time. Bayern’s subsequent race to catch up came too late.

The best thrower from Bonn was the strong main round MVP Parker Jackson-Cartwright with 20 points, while center Leon Kratz was convincing on the defensive. Nick Weiler-Babb scored 16 points for the Munich side, who now have their backs to the wall after taking a 2-0 lead in the series

In the final series, the winner of next Wednesday’s decider will meet the defending champion Alba Berlin, who beat MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg 3-0.
