The decision to resume Premier League play, which was suspended on February 24, was made together with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said Association President Andrei Pawelko. He also spoke to the heads of FIFA and UEFA to find a safe way for the country’s national teams to host their home games.

“I spoke to President Zelenskyy about the importance of football as a distraction”said Pavelko: “From children to old people, everyone is focused on war. Every day they get information about deaths, about the effects of war.” Football has great power so that people in Ukraine can believe in a future again.
