The MECC in Maastricht was the setting for the largest sports gaming festival in Europe on Saturday and Sunday: GG22. Visitors could play games with influencers, but new digital sports were also tried out.
In one corner there are countless screens with the computer games and in the other corner of the congress building there is racing with real go-kart cars. “We try to combine gaming and sports more,” says organizer Roger Lodewick.

“And we want parents and children to be exposed to sports gaming,” Lodewick said. “There is plenty of experimentation with this in the Netherlands and abroad.”
For example by the company of developer Michiel Verhage. He develops dodgeball with a ‘digital sauce’. “Through VR glasses you see the real world, but technology has been added,” says developer Michiel Verhage. “We hope that in the future children will start to play more games like this.”
