Kiel (dpa) – The handball players from THW Kiel and Füchse Berlin have continued their duel for the remaining place in the Champions League.
The record champions from Kiel celebrated a 29:22 (16:8) home win against HSV Hamburg in the northern Bundesliga derby and thus consolidated second place. The Berliners remain third after 35:25 (18:15) over TSV GWD Minden.
Sagosen injured his ankle
The game in the Kiel Arena, which was sold out with 10,285 spectators for the first time in three years, was overshadowed by the injury to THW player Sander Sagosen. As reported by THW, the Norwegian suffered a fracture in his left ankle and a tear in the syndesmosis ligament. “With this type of injury, Sander will be out for between six and eight months,” said team doctor Frank Pries. The foot was placed in plaster for temporary immobilization.
Kiel ensured clear conditions from the start. THW left winger Rune Dahmke extended the eight-goal lead at the break to 22:10 in the 41st minute. Hamburg circle player Manuel Späth completed his 500th Bundesliga game.
Foxes sovereign after starting problems
