Turkish Wrestling Federation President Şeref Eroğlu stated that they are making an effort to have beach wrestling enter the 2024 Paris Olympics as a demonstration sport, and said that all the sports and branches that will compete and show in the Olympics have developed a lot.
In his statement, Eroğlu noted that the World Beach Wrestling Championship, held for the third time in Turkey, is important. Reminding that about 100 athletes from more than 20 countries recently wrestled at Sarıgerme Beach in Muğla, Eroğlu stated that the importance of beach wrestling has increased in many countries of the world as well as Turkey.
Stating that they do not see the organizations as just wrestling or beach wrestling, they want to contribute to the promotion of the country and introduce the region to guests from abroad, Eroğlu said, “We have organized the World Beach Wrestling Championship twice before and it is the third one this year. People do not know the rule, they do not follow something. “They don’t adopt it very easily. Now they learn the rules. They learn how it is and what the circle does. Gradually, the number of our athletes is increasing both for women and men.”
“WE CAN SEE THIS BRANCH IN THE OLYMPICS IN 2028”
Reminding that the World Beach Wrestling Championship final will be held in Romania, Eroğlu said:
Beach wrestling will perhaps enter as a demonstration sport at the 2024 Paris Olympics. All the sports and branches that will compete and show in the Olympics develop a lot. It attracts all the attention, which is very important. There are currently 33 branches that will be competed in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Maybe this will be the 34th branch in 2028 after the Paris Olympics. Because Europeans want not only a few branches, but also different branches that all young people will want. For this, the Olympic Committee Members in Europe also support it. Maybe we can see this branch in the Olympics in 2028.
Explaining that as the Turkish Wrestling Federation, they want to take part in all the organizations held by the World Wrestling Union, Eroğlu said that the presidents and managers of the World Wrestling Federation also love Turkey.
Stating that Turkey is a wrestling country and that it has achieved significant success in this field for years, Eroğlu said that they will strive to achieve success in every championship from now on.
Explaining that they will also participate in the final competitions to be held in Romania, Eroğlu said, “We want to buy some gold here. We will also participate in other legs. The important thing is to contribute to the promotion of our country and win a medal.”
