During the night from Saturday to Sunday, a fire broke out in a basement box of a porch flat on the Leliënstein in the Rotterdam district of Charlois. The fire brigade rescued ten residents from balconies with a ladder truck. Due to the smoke development in the flat, a total of seventeen residents had to be evacuated. They are temporarily housed in a police station. Three of them have been checked by ambulance personnel, according to a spokesperson for the safety region.
The fire broke out around 2:30 a.m. and was brought under control half an hour later. The fire brigade is busy airing all homes and expects all residents to be able to return. “The fire was not much, but the smoke caused the problems,” said the spokesperson.
