A man died in a spontaneous rescue operation for a stuck sailing boat in the Möserschen See near Brandenburg an der Havel.

The sailing boat ran aground on a sandbank on Saturday, a police spokesman said in the evening. A man, who was in his own boat nearby, got into the water and swam to the stranded people to help them.

While trying to free the stuck sailboat, his own boat drifted away, the spokesman said. The man, whose age was initially unknown, then swam after his boat and suffered a medical emergency in the process. According to the police, he could only be rescued lifeless from the water.

Further details about the course of the accident were not initially known. The investigations are ongoing.
