Despite new ‘four o’clock rule’ still extremely busy at Schiphol

As of today, all travelers at Schiphol must be able to demonstrate that they are present no earlier than four hours before their flight. The measure is intended to ensure that the queues are not unnecessarily longer than necessary. Despite the new rule, it is again extremely busy at Schiphol today, with a queue that covers two departure halls and is also led outside.

Schiphol has deployed office staff and assistance desk staff to check the passengers. There is no question of compassion: anyone who reports to the staff four hours and ten minutes in advance will be asked to wait at Schiphol Plaza.

The director of Schiphol, Dick Benschop, informed NH Nieuws that he has a positive first impression of the new measure: “I think it is going very well.” According to Benschop, this is a test that will last at least the entire Whitsun weekend.

Moving flights

Next week Benschop wants to announce more about moving flights to other airports. This would mean that travelers who have booked a flight from Schiphol may depart via Rotterdam, Eindhoven, Maastricht or Groningen.
