Ajax has made a new offer for Steven Bergwijn, report The Telegraph and VI Friday. According to The Telegraph the proposal of the team from Amsterdam has since been rejected by Tottenham Hotspur.
Both media do not report how high Ajax’s offer is. An attempt was also made in January to get Bergwijn to the Johan Cruijff ArenA. Then Ajax did not want to go further than 25 million euros for the attacker.
Tottenham demanded 30 million euros for Bergwijn at the time, the amount for which he came over from PSV in January 2020. It is unclear whether the Premier League club is still holding on to that asking price.
The 24-year-old Bergwijn, who mainly sits on the bench in London and has a contract until mid-2025, would see a transfer to Ajax himself. According to The Telegraph a five-year contract is a formality.
After 2.5 years, Bergwijn has 83 official games at Tottenham, in which he scored eight times and provided ten assists. His supporting role is at odds with the status he previously had at PSV, where the attacker was an important force and, among other things, became champion three times.
Bergwijn is currently preparing with the Dutch national team for the upcoming Nations League matches. The Orange squad will play against Belgium on Friday evening in Brussels and will meet Wales (Wednesday), Poland (Saturday, June 11) and again Wales (Tuesday, June 14) during this international match.
