The three men were arrested by the police on Tuesday when the train arrived in Almere. The 19-year-old woman was groped by a man while she was sleeping on Tuesday evening at 11.15 pm on the Lelystad – Almere route. The assault was witnessed by another traveler who intervened. The traveler who raised the alarm, called 112 and alerted the conductor, was later threatened by the men.
The men have been arrested. Earlier, the police reported that it concerns two men from the Brabant municipality of Cranendonck, aged 22 and 26, and a 27-year-old man from the Groningen municipality of Westerwolde. But this data turns out to be incorrect. According to the COA, the three asylum seekers come from Hardenberg.
“The confusion probably arose because the men are still registered with the Cranendonck municipality. That is because they have applied for asylum in the asylum seekers’ center in Budel,” said De Stentor.
Alkmaar
On Monday, May 23, another woman was assaulted for 40 minutes on the train to Alkmaar. Last Monday, a 40-year-old man from Den Helder was arrested for this.
Since April 2020, the NS has had a telephone number (06-13181318) where train passengers who feel unsafe or experience nuisance can report this via WhatsApp or SMS to the NS control room. In situations where help is urgently needed, 112 should be called. It is not known whether new safety measures will be taken as a result of the incidents, the NS says it wants to await the police investigations first.
