Giel Beelen lets people pick out CDs at his home: proceeds for charity

Giel Beelen sells his entire CD collection for the construction of a music studio for children in the Spaarnegasthuis. As a radio DJ he has collected a lot of CDs, but they have been sitting in large pink cupboards in his living room for years without him doing anything with them. That’s why he sells them for a good cause.

“I wanted to do something with it and not make money from it myself. Then the Muziekids Foundation, of which I am an ambassador, came up with the idea for the studio. That’s great, isn’t it?!” He does not put his CDs on the marketplace, but sells them to music lovers at his home. today and Monday people with an appointment can come and pick out CDs.

Giel Beelen is fond of music, but he is not necessarily bound to CDs. He also likes to stream, which allows him to part with his thousands of albums. “I can do without even some CDs that I’ve listened to a lot, because I can still listen to it. It’s really about the music for me. I do save a few CDs for the radio with crazy sound effects.”

The proceeds of the CDs will go to the Muziekids Foundation, which will build a music studio for the young patients of the Spaarne Gasthuis, where they can make music. And that is close to Beelen’s heart. “I think it’s very beautiful, but you can imagine that money is needed for that. Also to pay the people to guide it there.”

This afternoon, the first candidates had the opportunity to browse through Giel’s collection. Monday is the day on which he hopes to receive many more people. “I do have one rule and that is that people have to buy large numbers. It is for Muziekids and the cabinets must be empty on Monday.”
