Belgian who was on the run with kidnapped son arrested in Alicante | Abroad

The police in our country were able to follow the trail of the man in his fifties as far as Antwerp, from where, according to Spanish media, he may have fled by boat to Mallorca. However, his whereabouts were unknown. Our country subsequently issued a European arrest warrant for child abduction.

The Belgian was arrested during a police check in Alicante, a city with more than 330,000 inhabitants on the Costa Blanca. His 2-year-old son was also in the car and was transferred to a shelter in Alicante. He will stay there until he can be handed over to his mother.

The child’s father faces up to five years in prison and has been placed at the disposal of the Spanish court pending his extradition.
