Cyclist left injured after accident, driver quickly traced

A motorist who ran off in Oostelbeers on Monday evening after shoveling a cyclist was arrested by the police shortly after the accident. The victim had to be taken to hospital in Tilburg by ambulance.

The accident happened around a quarter to eight on the Neereindseweg. The cyclist was hit by a car with a trailer. He ended up in a ditch and his bike broke in two from the impact. A second cyclist was uninjured.

Immediately after the accident, the police distributed a search message via Burgernet. People were called to look out for a small yellow car with a square trailer. “We quickly received reports and found the car in Middelbeers,” said a police spokesman. The suspected driver was arrested at his home and taken to the police station.

After the accident, the Neereindseweg was temporarily closed and a trauma helicopter was able to land in a nearby meadow. The injured cyclist had serious bruises and was taken to hospital by ambulance for a medical check-up.
