Finland is number one in the IIHF rankings. Canada is second on the same list.

These two countries may currently be the two best puck countries in the world, even if you don’t even look at the rankings.

Finland and Canada will play each other in the third World Cup final on Sunday.

In the Olympic finals, however, the countries did not meet, but in Beijing, Finland was faced with a Russian team that will no longer play in IIHF tournaments after the start of the war.

It is rare for the same teams to play in three consecutive World Cup tournaments in the finals. The last time this happened was between 1974 and 1976, when the Soviet Union and Czechoslovakia fought for the championship.

Finland and Canada will break the 45-year break on Sunday without such a phenomenon.

With their semi-final victory, Leijonat also made Finnish puck history. Finland is now playing in the final for the fourth consecutive value tournament.

Only Canada has been able to do the same in the 21st century. Maple leaf shirts have done the trick twice.
