The Finnish legend was chosen for the honorary gallery of the International Hockey Federation. He spoke at the event in Tampere about a letter from his son Samuel.
Kimmo Timonen on Sunday, the eyebrows of the festive people at Tampere House got wet when he revealed his everyday secret.
– It has mattered a lot to me. A little fact about my life that many don’t know, Timonen says.
He was elected to the IIHF Honorary Gallery of the International Hockey Federation. At the end of his thank-you speech, the Finn took out a letter he had received 13 years ago. He wrote it to his father Samuel Timonen.
In his father’s letter, Samuel wrote to Kimmo that this is the best father in the world, even though he once missed a birthday party because of his playing career and had to leave home for a game trip on Christmas Day.
– In my player career, I always touched on a letter or read it on game days. It was a kick in the ass. I still have the letter on the windowsill. I see it every day when I change my clothes. I still return to it very often, Kimmo Timonen says.
Samuel Timonen, 23, who plays in Iisalmi from Mest, was present at the Tampere event on Sunday.
– It tastes great. When I think I started playing hockey when I was 6-7 and now I’m 47, I get that kind of honor. It feels good. You could spend half an hour here reminiscing about things and who you should thank. There are so many great memories and people in my background.
