In order to relieve the overcrowded application center in Ter Apel, 150 asylum seekers will be accommodated for a number of weeks in Top Sports Hall in Leek. This is reported by the Groningen municipality of Westerkwartier.
The municipality does not say how many weeks it will be exactly. After their stay in the Top Sports Hall, the asylum seekers are transferred to another location.
Too many people have been staying at the application center in Ter Apel for quite some time. As a result, dozens of asylum seekers had to spend the past two nights in a chair. Due to the situation, the 25 security regions have agreed to provide 150 reception places per region. This is a short-term solution for the next three weeks.
