DOS’46 celebrates 75th anniversary: ’Nice to see each other again’

It’s a party in Nijeveen, because korfball club DOS’46 is celebrating its 75th anniversary. The club is therefore going big this weekend with a reunion, where members and former members from all over the world are present.

“There are just over two hundred people,” says organizer and former club member Albert Lucas. “It is very cosy. We have rented a large party tent that is next to the sports complex. There we can first drink coffee and continue talking to each other, then the festivities begin.”

Lucas is looking forward to it, he has been around for quite a few years and has seen many people come and go. He especially likes seeing people who now live abroad. “It’s been years since I last saw those people,” he laughs. “Guus comes here especially from Abu Dhabi. He was one of the first to register for the reunion. Someone also came from Switzerland. That says something about DOS’46 and how special the association is.”

Former trainer Rinse Popma knows better than anyone how important the association is. He had great successes in the 60s and 70s with DOS’46. Popma is also known as the Godfather of the club. “Maybe because of my training methods,” he chuckles. “We have grown enormously technically in those years. The highlight for me is the first time becoming Dutch champion with the A-juniors in 1971. Nobody had heard of Nijeveen and we did it nicely. members to talk about.”
