You don’t see a special Ferrari, Bentley or McLaren driving on the road every day, but on Saturday you could spot 65 in a row. The Cars & Pleasure rally, a car tour especially for exclusive sports and classic cars, partly drove through East Brabant. The group made a ‘pit stop’ in Deurne.
Two bright green and blue Porsches are among the first to arrive at the resting place. Immediately upon disembarking, the duos begin to discuss the route they have just taken. “You drove completely wrong!”, jokes Rolf Kuijpers from Valkenswaard. He joins the rally with his two sons and a friend. They are lucky that they are so early, so they can have a good look at all the special cars that come in. “It’s unprecedented what drives around here,” says Rolf.
“A special father-son activity.”
Frank and his son Tim arrive at the pit stop a little later with a big smile. They enjoy the rally with the roof open. “We’re in it for fun. I really like cars,” said Tim. It is a real father-son activity for the duo from Sint-Oedenrode. “It is very special. I have three sons, but one of them has my genes and also loves cars so much. So there is no discussion at home who comes along happily.”
Despite the wide variety of cars, Tim doesn’t have to hesitate for long to choose his favourite: “That’s the GT2RS Porsche.” Unfortunately, the young car fan has to wait a few more years before he can press the accelerator himself.
“I searched all day.”
Such special cars naturally attract attention. Although the organization has tried to keep the route a secret, 11-year-old Niek managed to find out the pit stop location. He is busy with his camera to capture all the sports cars. “I’ve been trying to find out where this rally was all day via Instagram. When I saw where they were driving, I immediately jumped in the car,” he says with great enthusiasm. The car spotter can’t believe his luck. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many cars in one place.”
The winner of the rally is not the one who drives the fastest. During the ride, participants must pay attention so that they can answer as many questions as possible. Whoever does it best will take the win.
