Winter sports: biathlon star announces change

After the exhausting 2021/2022 biathlon season, the athletes are already preparing for the coming winter. This not only includes going to the training camp early, but also a change of equipment for one or the other.

Norway’s biathlon star Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold, for example, is breaking new ground. As the 25-year-old announced via Instagram, she will be on skis from the French brand Salomon in the future. Until the very end, she relied on the material from Fischer in Austria.

“New brand but I’m still the same. Very happy to join the Salomon family,” wrote Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold under her post.

Ingrid Landmark Tandrevold is a superstar on the biathlon scene

The French company has made a big splash with Tandrevold, as the three-time relay world champion has been one of the best biathletes for several years.

But the Norwegian is not the only winter athlete who will be outfitted by Salomon in the future.

At the beginning of May it was announced that the Swiss cross-country skier Nadine Fähndrich was also changing outfitter.

The 26-year-old had relied on the Finnish manufacturer Peltonen for 14 years and is now making the switch. “I was curious and wanted to test other brands. I immediately had a good feeling with Salomon,” said Fähndrich after her change of material. The “risk” of the changeover is also “relatively low”.

Fähndrich, the best cross-country skier in Switzerland, and Tandrevold are not only united by the new outfitter.

Double Olympic drama

Both also struggled at the Beijing Winter Olympics. Fähndrich made it to the final in the sprint, but missed a medal in fifth place.

“The disappointment is still quite present, I was so close,” she later told the “Luzerner Zeitung”.

Tandrevold, meanwhile, collapsed on the final lap after an exhausting biathlon pursuit.

The dramatic pictures went around the world and gave her an early Olympic exit.
