Elon Musk’s SpaceX could become the most valuable US startup

Elon Musk’s second major project is the unlisted Space Exploration Technologies Corporation (SpaceX). With this company, which he founded in 2002, he is pursuing the dream of colonizing Mars. Even if there is still a long way to go to this goal, SpaceX has already developed into a major supplier of the International Space Station (ISS) and has even been transporting private individuals into space since 2021.

Another round of financing

Investors are also showing great interest in SpaceX. As “Bloomberg” reports, citing insider information, a new round of financing is planned – several investors are said to be holding talks about acquiring new company shares. The valuation shows a significant jump compared to October 2021, when it paid $56 per share and valued SpaceX at $100 billion. The SpaceX shares are to be offered as part of the new round at a price of 70 dollars each, which would mean that the space company would now be valued at 125 billion dollars and, according to data from the analysis company CB Insights, even the most valuable US start-up to date of all time would.

But not only new shares are to be issued. Rather, there should be an “Employee Tender Offer” in parallel, meaning that SpaceX employees, as existing shareholders, could also sell their shares to a selected group of investors as part of a “private placement” for $70 each.

Connection to Twitter purchase?

However, it remains unclear whether SpaceX founder Elon Musk will part with part of his SpaceX shares. Since the richest man in the world is currently working on the roughly 44 billion dollar purchase of the short message service Twitter, it is quite conceivable that he wants to raise funds in this way.

However, Musk has now “temporarily suspended” the Twitter takeover, accusing the service of having many more fake accounts than stated. In this context, it is unclear whether he wants to push the price down – or is trying to prepare the ground for an exit from the deal.
