The DFB Cup is of enormous importance to RB Leipzig’s new coach Domenico Tedesco.
“The cup competition is extremely important for me personally. We really want to get to the quarter-finals. We’re preparing ourselves physically and mentally,” said the 36-year-old.
The runners-up in the Bundesliga welcomes the second division team Hansa Rostock on Wednesday (6:30 p.m. / Sky). It will be the second meeting between the two teams in Leipzig after the third division duel in November 2013. Rostock won 2-1 back then.
Tedesco doesn’t want to take any risks against opponents who play a class lower and will probably rotate only slightly. “We prepared the opponent as if it were a Bundesliga club,” said the coach. “Hansa does some things really well, they score a lot of goals from corners and from long throws.” Rostock coach Jens Härtel emphasized on Tuesday that the focus is clearly on the league and that the cup is a bonus.
