Will a record be shattered with the warmest May 18 ever?

Expectations are high. Will Wednesday be a tropical day that will break the heat record for May 18? Previously, it seemed that the mercury would rise to about 31 degrees, with which we immediately have the first tropical day of 2022.

But we are not going to achieve that, meteorologist Johnny Willemsen of Weerplaza knows.

It will be hot today for sure. At 9 o’clock this morning the thermometer already indicated 21 degrees. “But 31 degrees, we are not going to achieve that,” says Willemsen. “28.29 degrees, that will be about the maximum temperature for the east of Brabant. If you go a little further east, in Limburg and Germany, the mercury rises above 30.”

Big difference in east and west
He continues: “And in the west, near Bergen op Zoom, it is a bit cooler there, because there is a westerly wind blowing. It will probably be 24 degrees there. So a big difference, in Brabant.”

The first thirties is therefore not in it, but the heat record could just be broken because the mercury must rise above 27.9 degrees. “I think that will work, especially in the vicinity of Eindhoven and Volkel,” predicts the weatherman.

Code yellow for severe thunderstorms
Thursday will be another warm, oppressive day. Then strong thunderstorms are coming our way with hail, gusts of wind and lots of rain. Yellow warning code was issued between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.

“A thunderstorm is also expected on Friday, and that will dispel the heat,” says Willemsen. “In the weekend it will be 21, 22 degrees instead of the heat we have now. And it will remain that way. At the beginning of next week the weather will remain quite nice, with maybe a few showers, but often also sun.”
