He is the son of one of the most famous musicians of all time. After more than a decade, a new album by Julian Lennon will be released later this year. Based on his childhood nickname, it bears the title “Jew” and appears to reflect his own path in life. As he said in an interview with Elton John: “It felt a lot like growing up, I think. Especially as life progresses, you tend to look back on your life and see where you come from,” said the 59-year-old.
Film premiere with other Beatles offspring was the deciding factor
Apparently, the final tipping point for the naming of his seventh studio record was a trip to the cinema with other mushroom head offspring: “And especially after seeing the movie ‘Get Back’ with (half brother) Sean and (George Harrison’s daughter) Olivia and then Stella (McCartney) was there. I mean, I had the idea of the name before, but it was just done in such a way that it felt even more right.” In fact, a 100-minute version of Peter Jackson’s documentary was aired on November 18 with all the named Beatles descendants present The Beatles: Get Back screened in Los Angeles.
Julian Lennon: “I’ve honored where I come from”
Julian Lennon also confirmed what counts as common knowledge in pop culture: Paul McCartney wrote “Hey Jude” specifically for and about the then five-year-old boy. John Lennon had recently separated from his first wife Cynthia – as a result, the child rarely saw his father. “Well, it was McCartney. ‘Hey Jude’ was actually ‘Hey, Jules’ in the early stages. And a lot has been written about how he thought about me and my circumstances and that I had to be strong and at the end of the day find my way through this mess that I was in…” said Julian Lennon. He continued, “I think I honored the song and I think I honored where I came from, my legacy, sort of, my heritage. I think now was just the right time because life is too short and it felt perfect for that moment too.”
