Sparks albums on CD and vinyl

Sparks celebrate the reissues of seven studio albums from this decade with the 21st Century Sparks Collection. These are deluxe reissues on CD and vinyl.

ROLLING STONE is giving away four albums from the collection: “Hello Young Lovers” and “The Seduction Of Ingmar Bergman” on vinyl, as well as “Balls” and “Lil’ Beethoven” on CD.

Seven-piece remastered Sparks collection

The band’s first four re-releases came out on April 29th. Another wave of releases will follow on May 27, with the albums Exotic Creatures Of The Deep from 2008 and The Seduction Of Ingmar Bergman from 2009. The former is described as “complex” and “convoluted” in the press release. described, the latter gets the paraphrase “ambitious radio musical”.

The collection includes a total of five newly mastered records, as well as the two most recently released studio albums “Hippopotamus” and “A Steady Drip, Drip, Drip”. The deluxe edition also offers previously unreleased bonus material in CD and digital format.

60 years of Sparks: from art rock to electro disco

In the late ’60s, the brothers were students at the University of California and first began making music together. At that time under the name Halfnelson. Ron Mael was responsible for the songwriting, Russell Mael took over vocals and keyboards. Together with another sibling duo, Earle and James Mankey, and Harley Feinstein, they released their debut album “Bearsville” in 1971. The musical beginnings were characterized by classic rock and pop, later the band also tried art rock and glam Rock, Big Band Swing, Electro Disco, New Wave and Synthpop.

The Mael brothers are also active in the film world

In 2021, two films related to the two Mael brothers who make up the band’s current line-up were released. The two wrote both the screenplay and the soundtrack for the musical film “Annette”. The Sparks Brothers documentary follows the careers of Russell and Ron Mael.
