Chubais called offshore wind energy his lifelong dream

Wind Energy Development Fund introduced the first project was put into operation at the beginning of 2019 – it was a 50 MW wind farm in the Ulyanovsk region. Now among the projects of the fund there are wind farms in the Astrakhan, Rostov, Volgograd and Samara regions, as well as in the Republic of Kalmykia.

In support of the energy transition and the use of renewable energy sources, the former head of Rosnano Anatoly Chubais (now the president’s special representative for relations with international organizations on sustainable development) spoke out. In early January, after leaving the state-owned company, he said that the energy transition is now comparable to the information revolution of the 20th century. In his opinion, the country that rejects it will look like it would look now in 20 years, for example, without the Internet.

Chubais later stated that renewable energy is the most important industry for the modern world. “I love renewable energy, I’m a renewable energy maniac! This is the most important thing for us,” he said. The President’s special envoy also stressed that if “seriously to threaten” participation in the energy transition, then Russia needs platform technologies that “completely change the entire cluster of materials.”
