Russia hopes Germany will influence Ukraine

Russia is not a party to the conflict in Ukraine, it is unacceptable to present it as such, although there have been attempts to shift responsibility for failure to comply with the Minsk agreements to Moscow, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on the air of the TV channel “Russia 24”, noting that there is a common understanding with Germany that there is no alternative to the Minsk agreements.

During a press conference with German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock, the foreign minister expressed hope that the German colleagues would be able to influence the Kiev partners. In this context, the politicians exchanged views on further cooperation within the Normandy format in order to intensify the work of the contact group, where Kiev, Luhansk, and Donetsk are represented.

Earlier, Lavrov spoke in favor of constructive relations between Moscow and Berlin, he stated this before the start of negotiations with his German counterpart Annalena Burbock. The Russian side intends to overcome the accumulated problems with the new Cabinet of Ministers of Germany, Lavrov stressed.
