Petrol in Belgium for the first time above 2 euros | Abroad

Motorists must fear a price increase of 9.2 cents per liter when refueling Euro95/E10. The liter price for Euro98 even jumps from 16.1 cents to 2,201 euros per litre. The price for diesel remains the same (2,0330 euros).

In Belgium, the national government determines the maximum cost of a liter to protect consumers against price fluctuations. Compared to our country, motorists and Dutch tank tourists therefore feel the blows of the high market price later.

Due to the war in Ukraine and the aftermath of the pandemic, the oil price is skyrocketing. For many Belgian gas station owners, the legal maximum prices are a disaster. They sometimes have to sell the ‘black gold’ at a loss. Some gas stations are temporarily closed for that reason or secretly ask more than is allowed. There is a good chance that most gas stations will raise prices on Tuesday.

To help motorists, the Belgian government has previously introduced a temporary reduction in excise duties on fuels. With a tax discount of 17.5 cents per liter for petrol and diesel, the Belgians are slightly more generous than The Hague.
